Standing strong against bigotry and hate
Over the past two months, someone has been calling in bomb threats to Jewish Community Centers on Long Island and in dozens of states across the country. No bombs have gone off, but the fear and disruption this hateful coward has caused are very real and very troubling.
The person or people responsible for these crimes need to be brought to justice. That’s why I joined many of my colleagues from both parties last week in calling on the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI and the Justice Department to fully investigate these incidents and update Congress on what steps they can take to deter these kinds of threats and help enhance security at JCCs. This week, I also called for the Counterterrorism and Intelligence Subcommittee to examine the Department of Homeland Security’s efforts to protect and harden JCCs and other religious institutions that could be vulnerable to terrorist threats.
And as I told Wolf Blitzer earlier this week, we need leaders at all levels of government and leaders of all faiths to continue speaking out against these hateful attacks and make it clear that we have no tolerance for anti-Semitism or any form of bigotry. Help me spread the word: Watch the video right now and share it with your friends!
I’m proud to represent one of the largest Jewish communities in the country, and an attack on our district’s Jewish community is an attack on all of us. We're going to keep standing strong together, and I'm grateful to have you with us.
