Tell the Senate: Reject Jeff Sessions!
As a federal prosecutor, I worked in both a Democratic and a Republican administration, and I’m proud to have served under Attorneys General appointed by both President Clinton and President Bush. Whatever political or policy disagreements I may have had with the Bush administration, I always knew that those of us in the Justice Department were focused on enforcing the law and enhancing public safety, getting justice for victims, and protecting civil rights.
But I couldn’t say the same about a Justice Department run by President-elect Trump’s nominee for Attorney General, Senator Jeff Sessions – an extreme right-wing ideologue with a long history of fighting against equality and civil rights. He’s opposed efforts to protect and expand voting access. He’s said that he thought the KKK was “okay,” until he learned that some of them smoke marijuana. And even as leading progressives and conservatives have found common ground in the fight to reform our broken, discriminatory criminal justice system, Senator Sessions has stood in the way of progress.
We cannot let Senator Sessions take over the Justice Department. Add your name right now to tell the U.S. Senate to reject Jeff Sessions for Attorney General!
Back in 1986, Jeff Sessions was nominated to serve as a federal judge – and the Republican-led Senate rejected the nomination after hearing testimony about racist comments he’d made throughout his career. Three decades later, he’s a vocal backer of some of the most extreme elements of Trump’s agenda, including mass deportations and a border wall with Mexico, and he’s proudly set himself on the wrong side of history time and time again – opposing equal pay for women, marriage equality, women’s right to choose, and critical civil rights reforms.
His record makes it clear that he cannot be trusted to uphold the integrity of our justice system, and his nomination must be rejected just as it was thirty years ago.
Together, we can stop this nomination: Sign the petition right now and tell the U.S. Senate to reject Jeff Session’s nomination for Attorney General!
