What we stand for
We won our race here on Long Island, and you were a big part of the victory. Thank you for standing with me.
There’s no question that the result of the presidential election is a major setback for our priorities. But what matters now is how we confront this new challenge.
We have a tough job ahead of us, but we will not back down. It’s on us to stand up for equality, diversity, the rule of law, and the rights of our fellow citizens. Millions of Americans are counting on us right now, and I’m not going to let them down.
Over the past few days, I’ve heard some heartbreaking stories about children of immigrants coming to school afraid that their parents may soon be taken away from them. Muslim children and children of color asking if their families still have a place in America. To anyone who feels that way, to any families struggling to discuss these issues with your kids – know that you are valued and you are not alone. I will have your backs, and I will be your voice in Congress.
We are in this together. This may be a dark moment, but we’ve faced dark moments before and we will come through this together.
Again, thank you for your support and thank you for participating in our democracy. It matters to me, and it matters to everyone counting on us to stand up for what we know is right.
