Love and pride vs. hate
June is LGBT Pride month.
It’s a time to embrace our LGBT friends, neighbors, and family members. It’s a time to stand up to hate and intolerance. This year, it’s also a time to celebrate many first wedding anniversaries as we toast one full year of marriage equality.
The hate-inspired attack on Orlando’s LGBT community broke our hearts. Forty-nine beautiful, young, promising lives were cut short that day. As we mourn them, our commitment and resolve to stand up for the rights and dignity of LGBT Americans only gets stronger.
To truly honor the victims and survivors of this despicable act we must do more than send thoughts and prayers. Moments of silence are not enough. We need to take action to keep guns out of dangerous hands.
My commitment is to keep fighting for common-sense gun safety reforms and stand up for our LGBT brothers and sisters. Thank you for standing with me.
