Every 15 minutes...

Every 15 minutes, an elephant is killed by poachers – that’s more than 30,000 elephants killed each year. Their tusks are ripped from their bodies, sold to ivory smugglers, and turned into jewelry and other luxury goods.

But it's not just elephants that are in danger. The ivory trade is a major source of revenue for warlords like Joseph Kony and his violent militia the Lord’s Resistance Army. These groups slaughter elephants, smuggle the ivory through the black market, and use the profits to finance brutal attacks against local populations.

We can do something about this. I recently cosponsored a bill – the TUSKER Act – that aims to end the ivory trade by imposing tough economic sanctions on countries that tolerate it. Join me in this fight: tell Congress to pass the TUSKER Act!

Together, we can crack down on the ivory trade, stop the murderers that profit from it, and save thousands of beautiful, innocent elephants.
